Activating Your Creative Genius

Who is a genius? According to the Oxford English Dictionary, a genius is a person with an exceptionally intellectual or creative power. Everyone on this planet is born with an exceptional, intellectual or creative power put in there by the creator (God Almighty) Himself. In other words, when God created man, or every one of us, He put a little part of Himself in us; his creative genius in all of us. God didn’t and can’t give you what He doesn’t have or possess Himself. If you are good at sciences, or can sing, paint or draw, it is because God Himself knows how to do these things, and not just only knowing how to do them, it’s the very core of His very nature; the core of His entire being. And so God expects every one of us to shine in glory like Him because He has put a little part of Himself in every one of us to reflect His character, attributes; His nature and glory.  And that is why God frowns upon slothfulness, laziness, and imitation (wanting to be like someone else He hasn’t created you to be).
There is a reason He put that part of Him in you, and He expects you to use what He’s given you and become like Him on the face of the earth.  From the Bible, Psalms 82: 5-6, shows the depraved state in which man fell as a result of sin and disobedience. God’s intention was to create “gods” on earth like him to rule and to dominate the earth through the creative power He put in him.
When you do not know who you are? Why you were born? Why you are on the face of this planet? What your purpose in life is? You will walk about in darkness (Psalm 83:5). Just like Dr. Mike Murdock says: “If you do not know your difference, then you do not know why you were born; you do not know why you’re on earth. That’s why it’s important to activate your creative genius-your God given talent, gift or ability-so you can maximize your potential and become like Him on planet earth.
The story of the parable of the talents shows that God can put various parts of Himself in one human being. That is one can be someone who is multi-talented or gifted depending on what God requires that person to become here on earth; while to another He gives just one gift or talent. That is why it is very essential that you discover your own self in God and don’t copy another person. Like the title of a book by John Mason which says: “You were born an Original, do not die a photocopy”, it is sad to note that a lot of people have died or gone back to God full of everything He put inside of them. And what do you think will be the judgment for such people? According to Matthew 25:24-30 in the Bible, they will be thrown outside into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Now, the first step to activating your creative genius is by first of all giving your life to Christ. You must be born again (John 3:16). There’s no one who can truly be a lasting success without first experiencing the second birth; your spirit man has to be regenerated by God’s Holy Spirit. Anyone who isn’t in Christ is dead to God, His Word and His character, and attributes of righteousness, and as such cannot live the life that God has intended for her to live from the beginning. That person will only be dancing to the tune of the enemy even if she eventually succeeds at activating her creative genius.
Secondly, spending time to study God’s Word helps to renew your mind (Romans 12:1-12). Through study of the Word, you can actually know God’s will, plan and purpose for your life. Most times, God speaks to you through His Word as you meditate on His promises. You can get direction and clarity about what to study at college or the university or what career path to take. Always remember that God’s perfect will for your life could be far from where we intended to go or quite different from what we had in mind. But always your interests, gifting and talents are pointers or clues to His ultimate purpose for your life.
Thirdly, when you spend time in prayer, worship and fasting, that is to abstain from food or any other thing that can distract you from God’s presence, God’s will can be revealed. See Acts13:2-3. As you deny yourself and pray and worship Him, there’s no way God wouldn’t show you what He desires of you, or speak to you in clear cut terms what’s His will for your life. Also most of the time, as you spend time in His Presence, gifts and abilities within you that you never knew existed are activated, and thence, you begin to find yourself doing things you never thought possible.
Furthermore, giving sacrificially to God and for the Gospel’s sake will cause Him to move His Sovereignty over your life and give you dreams and visions concerning your gifts and talents. He will also endow you with wisdom and knowledge of witty inventions. See 2 Kings 3:4-15; Malachi 3:10-12. When you give the Tithe- a tenth of your increase which belongs to God, you will cause the windows of Heaven to open over your life, and the LORD rains down on you “ideas” which will activate your talent to action and fruition. God wouldn’t give you any idea, knowledge or wisdom not related to your gifts and abilities, even if you’re still yet to discover them. When He gives you that idea, it just means that’s the direction He’s leading you in relation to His plan for your life.
Finally, find out what you’re good at. What are you good at? What do you enjoy doing so much that you lose track of time? What topics or subjects interest you the most? What are you passionate about? What infuriates you the most? That’s a clue to the problem you’ve been assigned to solve. What are the things you can do without having a formal education? What can you do easily and without stress, as if you were born to do it? And in actual sense, you were and are! All these are indications to your creative genius- your God given destiny. What is your difference? Your difference makes you different…period! There must be something that makes you different from the next fellow and that’s your creative genius. So, therefore, you need to take the time to discover and develop the talents you have, and not the ones you want in order to fulfill your purpose here on earth, and this will make all the difference.
