It was in 1995, at the age of 21, a freshman in college, just passed my
pre-degree exams and had been admitted into the department of Civil
Engineering, when I gave my heart to Jesus. Although I ended up studying Geography
and graduated with honours. All through my college days, I was steadfast in the
pursuit of the Lord and His plan for my life, in spite of the fact that at that
time, a lot of things which were vague in my understanding, have now become
clearer at the age of 41.
To cut a long story short, I had a profound relationship with the Lord
God Almighty through His son Jesus Christ, who was with me and has been with me
through the good times and also through the rough times, especially when I became
a single mum. His love was there to forgive, heal and restore me back to Him, even
when I stumbled and fell. And mind you, he still does. Even right this moment
as you read this blog, wondering in what direction your life might be heading;
if you will ever get to that desired will of God for your life, do not despair.
There is hope for you. You might right now be feeling hopeless, dejected, and
sad and rejected, I can assure you that there is still hope for you.
One
question you should perhaps ask yourself is “Am I saved?” And I am going to
officially ask you all single mothers out there the same question: “are you
saved?” That is a very vital question, we should ask ourselves, and if you don’t
have the answer right away, you can get it right this minute……
ARE
YOU SAVED?
Salvation is a personal thing. It is not collective or dependent on your
relationship with other people. It has an individualistic approach because God deals
with us personally and comes to us individually.
Now, your spiritual state is of utmost importance to God. Hence, the
avid question, “Are you saved?” God is so interested in where you are going to
spend eternity that He will use everything within your reach to get you to conform
to His will and purpose for your life. His main purpose for your life first and
foremost, is that you become regenerated in your spirit; you become born again.
And this can only take place when you accept the Lord Jesus into your heart. From
the Bible, John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten son, and whosoever believes
in Him should not perish but have everlasting life”. This is a popular saying and scripture
especially when we go out to evangelize the gospel. But the big question is: do
we understand the magnitude of these words spoken? I guess not. Because if we
did, the whole world would be saved today! There will be no crimes committed;
no killings; no theft; no hatred etc. Nevertheless, God in His infinite mercies
and power comes to our finite minds and hearts, and convicts us of our wrong
doings and sins. He imparts in us the grace and profound ability to withdraw
from evil and embrace good. As we daily conform to His convictions, this brings
about a heartfelt remorse which leads to repentance from the lives we once
previously lived. We find out that the desire to do good begin to outweigh the power
to do evil. Jesus
was the ultimate sacrifice on the cross, that day on Calvary. He paid the price
for your sin; He went in your stead, when you should have been punished for
sins committed. But above all, He gave us something significant when He was resurrected
from the dead after three days – His own life. The Bible says in John 10:10; “I
am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly”.
With the life of God in us, we can overcome evil and live forever in
God’s presence. Eternal life is a sure banker when we have completed our
assignments and fulfilled God’s will here on earth.
As single mums in retrospect, we need the Lord and the power of His Holy
Spirit more than ever to guide our hearts, minds, and emotions aright at every
given opportunity and circumstance we find ourselves. It is not an easy task bringing
up the child or children alone. You need guidance. You need the constant
presence of the Holy Spirit at all times, to comfort and to give absolute
divine direction when there are tough decisions to make concerning the kids -
their health, their education; your job, career, finances, where to live and
most importantly, fulfilling your purpose and becoming all that God intended
you to be even before He laid the foundations of the world. Yet, this can only
be realized only if you come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
God
loves you and wants you to have all the best in this life, and also come live
with Him in eternity. Maybe, you were saved once but you turned your back on
Jesus, perhaps as a result of some negative external influences, there is still
a chance for you to make things right again. Of course, you shouldn’t ever
forget that God is a God of a second chance. So, plug into the mercies of God
today, and let Him clothe you with purity and righteousness. It’s worth a try!
