Hair fair: Making
Beautiful Hair
Your hair is your
crowning glory, and as a woman special attention, should be given to it whether
it is convenient or not. Taking the time out to care for your hair will improve
the look and texture and also increase the life span of your hair. You might
ask: “how can I keep my hair glowing and beautiful?” It’s easy- intentionally
make out time to visit the salon at least once a week, or if you can’t afford
it that often, you can make it at least once in two weeks. Also, you can wash condition
and style at home if you have your own products to save you the hassle of going
constantly to the salon, and it’s less expensive. But having a professional
handle your hair once in a while will keep your tresses looking healthy and
more beautiful.
For women of color, who have their hair relaxed or permed,
it is advisable to get a professional hair stylist or someone who is well
experienced to do “touch ups” or “retouch” as at when due. Do not try to do it
yourself except you’re sure you can do it properly without injuring your scalp.
Keeping your hair constantly clean by washing, conditioning, and styling as
desired, following these periodic “touch ups” will make your hair grow well and
maintain its luster. If you’re blonde, black, brunette or red haired, you need
to constantly keep your tresses glowing and beautiful by also washing regularly
and conditioning to soften and detangle. Using a blow dryer and a wide toothed
brush to dry and style is advisable. If you’ve had your hair colored e.g. from black
to blonde, do not let the color come off and it becomes so obvious that you had
your hair color changed. Make out time to go to a good hair salon and good hair
stylists to get it recolored when you want your natural color back, you can
then grow out the color, but still maintain your tresses while growing out the
color.
Braids and getting a weave on are common trends with African
and African American women. If your style is more suited to braids use braiding
attachments that can last for a long period of time and will not “fray out”. Keep
your braids clean by washing and drying properly and then moisturize to make it
glow and more manageable. Weaves come in various colors, shapes, sizes and
lengths. As a responsible single mum, it is advisable to stick to conventional colors
and lengths. Don’t go wearing weaves as long as the “River Nile” and absurd
colors like blonde, blue, purple, etc and expect to be taken seriously. If you’re
going to wear a weave, please be responsible about it and let the motive behind
it, be more of convenience, and also to manage your hair properly. Weaves can
help your hair grow faster if worn properly and not incessantly.
Having a hair budget will come in handy and also go a long
way to help you manage and take care of your hair well. Putting money aside for
your hair weekly or monthly, or as your pay check comes, will relieve the
stress off your hair. As you make your weekly budget for groceries, mortgage,
clothing, the kid’s needs, entertainment and so on, do not forget your hair. It
doesn’t have to be that expensive, but investing in your hair will also make
you look more beautiful. The truth is a woman’s beauty is her hair. No matter how
well dressed or made up you are, if your hair isn’t looking good or well
styled, it affects your total package. So start investing in your hair today.
