What’s the real
Meaning of Christmas?
All around the world, the festive lights, decorations, Christmas
wreaths and trees, Santa Claus seem to make a bold statement: “its Christmas
time!”
Although in such countries like the United States, where
they have chosen to go by the name: “Happy Holidays”, it still doesn’t change
the fact that it’s the Christmas season. Even China, a communist country, where you can
hardly find Christians, or a free Christian community, they too have already begun to
catch the Christmas bug.
So what’s the real meaning of Christmas?
Is it a time just to be merry and happy or is it just the season to show appreciation to business associates and clients and employees for a well spent productive year?
Or is it just a time to dance, sing, go to the pubs and drink till you drop dead drunk?
Or perhaps it’s a time to just spend with family and visit with extended family members, long forgotten all year round but suddenly remembered because it’s Christmas time.
Or is it a time for one to find that special someone you have been hoping to meet all through the year at Christmas?
Still, may be, it’s a time to experience that long awaited miracle- whatever that may be, at Christmas!

Despite all the scenarios mentioned above, it still doesn’t define
or portray the real reason for the season. Jesus Christ is the reason for the
season, and contrary to popular opinion, He is the center of Christmas!
The Word of God boldly declares in Isaiah 9:16,’ for to us a child is born to us a son is given, and the government will be upon his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace”.
This is truth and nothing or no one can ever change this sacred truth. Christmas is a time of sober reflection amidst all the pomp and pageantry that goes with it. It is a time to reflect on your eternal status and ask yourself this simple question: “Where am I going to?” After all that has been said and done. And like the classic song by Diana Ross says: “Do you know where you’re going to? Do you like the things that life is showing you? Where are you going to? Do you know?”

This prophetic song, rightly asks the profound question that
addresses the issue of your eternal security. The Bible says in John 3:16, “For
God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosever
believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life”. This same Bible also
told us in Luke 2:8-15, how the angels appeared to shepherds watching their flocks
by night and informed them about the birth of Jesus Christ.
“This will be a sign to you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and laying a manger”(Luke 2:3). The birth of Christ had been foretold by the prophets of old and the the Jews were here expectant of the Messiah who was to restore the kingdom to Israel. But He came not the way they imagined or expected, and they missed an important time in their history. So, it is still today. Many are celebrating Christmas and they have missed the “One” behind the Christmas, and have replaced Him with myths, tales and ideologies of Santa Claus, and other historic traditions. This is not supposed to be so. Christmas should be celebrated for the reason it is called: “CHRIST-MAS”, also should be a time where each and everyone who hasn’t given their hearts to Jesus, should do so with urgency because THE TIME IS RUNNING SHORT! We are living in the last days, let’s not forget that, and with the constant threat of ISIS, growing and spreading across the regions of the world, threatening a religious war on Jews, Christians, and the entire western world, because they feel that they are fighting against human beings who have put their own laws above the laws of God, indeed these are the last days! And most especially, Christians need to wake up to the call to spread the good news of Christmas which says: “Man will live forever more because of Christmas Day”.
And who knows may be, just maybe, His second coming may very well be on Christmas Day!
