Becoming A Woman Of Substance

Today marks the United Nations International Women’s Day, and women all around the world are being celebrated not just for their achievements but for being women. Mothers, grandmothers, sisters, daughters, business women, and females from all walks of  life are being celebrated for their God given femininity and uniqueness on the earth.

Single mothers are also not left out too. Like I have reiterated earlier on, being a single mother doesn’t and shouldn’t stop you from achieving your dreams and visions. It doesn’t matter where you are right now, or what you’ve been through so far, you can still become all that God intended for you at the beginning of creation.  It doesn’t even matter the mistakes you have made in the past and still keep making, God’s Grace is available to help you in time of need. So how do we become women of substance and leave our imprint in the sands of time? First and foremost, your relationship with the Almighty God must be in tact. You can’t, and I repeat, you can’t successfully and effectively run your race of life on your own terms. You need the guidance and direction of  God to fulfill His purpose for your life here on earth.

Secondly, you need to develop your mind to gain sound mental prowess. Renewing your mind with God’s Word helps you get out of any mental rut or attitude limiting your success. Also reading relevant books in your field of endeavor can’t be overemphasized. You need to study to show your self approved. This is the sure way to mental development. Thirdly, you need to work on your emotions. Emotional intelligence is a must if you are going to navigate through the marketplace coupled with your maternal responsibilities without having a nervous break down. Meditating regularly on God’s Word will keep you in perfect peace as you keep your mind stayed on him. This is something I do every day and I have noticed that I am calmer, more patient, and can think with clarity and have direction and instruction even in the midst of challenging situations.

Finally, pursuing your dreams relentlessly is the final step to becoming a woman of substance. There should be no excuse whatsoever why you didn’t achieve your goals. Be bold even if you are afraid. According to one of the most celebrated women of God, Joyce Meyer,  who says that courage means ‘doing It afraid’. Yes, you need to be courageous and do it afraid! That’s the only way you’re going to get anything done. You’re not going to wake up one morning and find yourself in your future living your dream without taking bold and courageous steps. That’s how I started working with less privileged kids by establishing book reading clubs in public schools with a very prestigious organization partnering with me. That’s how I got my first inspirational romance fiction ebook published after sixteen years of waiting and multiple rejections from publishers.

Despite the challenge of single motherhood, I was determined to move forward by God’s help and grace to pursue my dreams and fulfill His visions in my heart. There’s still so much to be done and still more grounds to cover. But I am determined to get there and become all that God planned for me before I was created. And do you know the best part about all of this? I am so excited about the future because everyday I do something to take me closer to it no matter what I face. You can too, because it’s possible.
