Every woman and mother needs to develop herself most especially because you are of the female gender. It is imperative that you engage in personal and self development every day of your life. There’s no excuse for allowing yourself to remain on one level for too long. It is your responsibility to move yourself forward in every ramification of your life.
Everyone owes it to himself or herself to grow and develop. Apart from physical growth and development, which we as adults have already attained, it is mandatory that we also attain sound spiritual and mental growth and development.
First of all, a healthy spirit is one who has been regenerated by God’s Word and Spirit. For you to be regenerated in your spirit man, you have to come to terms with the fact that you need a savior. Jesus Christ is the only savior who saves you, and by his Holy Spirit, your spirit comes alive as you accept the Lord into your heart and he comes to live in you by His Spirit. And thus, your spiritual journey to wholeness, health and perfection begins.
Secondly, you need a healthy mind. This you will gain by renewing it with God’s Word. As you spend time daily feeding on the Word Of God, your mind goes through a transformation and you begin to gain the ascendancy in your thinking and behavior. You begin to see yourself in the light of God’s Word and view life and circumstances through the eyes of Faith! This improves the power of your mind drastically.
Thirdly, investing in your mental and intellectual creativity and capacity is highly important. Reading cannot be overemphasized. You should read daily to increase your knowledge base and capacity. You must be continuously reading and acquiring knowledge to improve that business or vocation you are currently running. If you are career woman, you must constantly seek to improve your mind and expand your capacity to gain that promotion. Find out what is trending in your industry, and if you have to take courses to upgrade your knowledge in that area, then by all means embark upon it.
Likewise for the business woman also. The world of business is changing drastically especially with the global pandemic of Covid-19 still currently taking its toll on the global business terrain. Let’s not kid ourselves, things aren’t going back to the way they used to be before the pandemic hit. And so we owe it to ourselves to move with the digital trends that are currently in place.
Businesses are operating remotely and digitally now. It would do you a whole lot of good to engage in positive ways to upgrade your business digitally to be more business savvy and digitally compliant in this fast paced changing times we live in right now.
Finally, taking care of your physical health cannot also be overemphasized. This is highly important because without good health, you can’t accomplish much.
I know as single mums, it is somewhat difficult at times to think about taking of yourself especially with the ominous task of taking care of the kids, the ever piling bills to pay and going to work or running your own business if you are self employed like I am. But the truth is, you have to cautiously and consciously take care of your health, that is if you want to live long on the earth!
Take time out to exercise. If there’s no time to do that, then take a walk instead of driving or taking the bus or a taxi cab. That’s what I do sometimes. I take a walk to go visit a client or to church. Secondly, try and take in lots of fresh air. I know this can be extremely difficult with the problem of air pollution plaguing our towns and cities. Despite this, you can still find areas which are still green, that is areas with trees and plant cover. You can consciously take a walk past these areas and inhale the freshness of the air, which I can tell you has a soothing effect on your nerves and body.
Cultivating good and healthy eating habits is highly essential. Eat a well balanced diet with lots of fruits, vegetables and nuts. Drink lots of water. Cucumbers and peanuts are a great way to start your day. Cut down on sodas. Like myself, I used to gulp sodas about 2-3 bottles daily. But right now at 46 years, and experiencing body changes for the better, I dare not try that!
With God’s help, I have been able to cut down to 3-4 bottles a week. My ultimate goal is to do 1-2 bottles a week, and I am gradually getting there and trying to make healthier choices in my eating habits too.
Personal or self development is essential for every woman most especially single mothers. There should be no excuse why you didn’t succeed in your life despite the challenges you face as a single parent. You owe it to yourself to be all that you have been created to be, as you make the conscious effort to go the extra mile to develop yourself in all ramifications.
