Women, your time has come!

I watched Wonder Woman on February 6, and came across the new Charlie’s Angels on February 20 in the space of two weeks. As I watched both movies, I began to see clearly that the time has come for women to rise up and become all that they were intended to be. Being a script writer, I watch movies a lot both for my profession and entertainment. Watching these two movies which have been solely focused on women and what they can do and have the capacity to do, left me in no doubt about the capabilities of the female gender.

Women for so long have been subdued in more ways than one. In many cultures around the world, the place of the woman has often times been relegated to the background. She is supposed to be the housewife, the stay at home mother, the home maker, the one who sews, bakes, cooks, does the grocery shopping; she’s the one who also does the laundry and in general manages and takes care of the home. This is by far a very good thing and honorable too. But when these same women are marginalized on the home front, family and in the society, then that becomes a problem.

In many African, Asian and Middle East cultures and societies, the people frown upon women even having an education. They believe girls should be groomed to get married and have children, that in some cases, the girl child is betrothed at birth to a man, who most times are old enough to be their fathers or even grandfathers! In other societies, women aren’t allowed to drive or own a bank account. And even in the Western societies, women in the marketplace are not paid equally as their male counterparts even at the same level or at the same rank.  Yet, I truly believe that the time for women to be regarded as equals, and be treated as such has come.

In the beginning, God created man in His own image. And when He realized that the man was alone, He decided to create a ‘helpmeet’ for him. Adam, the first man awoke from His slumber and saw her for the first time and said, she shall be called ‘Woman’, because she was taken out of man. So you see, the woman is not supposed to be treated less than the man or made to suffer like she has no relevance or no purpose here on earth. She was created uniquely by God to help and support the man, and not to be maltreated or trampled on by him or the society in general. (Genesis 2:18-25).

Women need to arise and take their positions as helpmeets for their husbands, and for those yet to experience matrimony, Wherever  you find yourself as a woman whether it’s in  a company, corporation, business, school, church etc. be a ‘helpmeet’. Through the years, a lot of women have made their mark in the sands of time and have knowingly or unknowingly inspired other girls and young women to reach for the heights and fulfill purpose. And for that I am very grateful.

As a writer, I have always been inspired by Margaret Mitchell, who wrote the best selling book in the 1930’s, Gone With The Wind. I read her biography and realized that she had had similar experiences to  which I could relate to. Despite all of that ,she pushed her way through and became a bestselling author.

And like I always reiterate in my posts, as a single mum, you have no excuse whatsoever not to be fruitful and also be successful in all your endeavors. All that is needed is just that  extra determination you need to push your way through sometimes,  if not all of the time. Yes, I know it can be very hard sometimes, especially now with the pandemic still in its throes. There are the kids to take care of, bills to pay and so on. Still, there’s light at the end of the tunnel. You can still be all you were created to be withstanding the circumstances.

The Lord in His Mercy is able to help you reach that goal and defining moment in your life. He will help you,  if only you ask and let Him build through you.

As we celebrate the female gender this week, actually March 8 was International Women’s Day, let’s continue to behold the beauty of the woman through God’s own eyes because He created us, and He has a unique and strategic purpose for every woman. And in this dispensation before His imminent return to take His Church, let every woman position herself circumspectly so He can bring out the best in her.
